MEET THE OWNER
Hi, I'm Rachael
A jewellery artist, nature enthusiast, and creative being.
Before Wombat Fern Jewellery got off the ground, I studied environmental science and wildlife conservation, worked in ecology restoration, and explored my artsy side dabbling in a long list of hobbies; but jewellery making is where I found my ultimate love for wearable art. Metalwork allows me to blend my love of nature, attention to detail, and intentional slow craft into an art form that is made to last.
Each piece is designed and handcrafted in my Melbourne bush studio, just across from the Birrarung river, where the natural landscape and river are a continuous source of inspiration.
Where It Began
I grew up surrounded by creative expression, with a family of potters, painters, artists, and tinkerers. As a teenager, I sold handmade pottery, scrunchies, craft jewellery and artworks at community markets, watching how artists turned their passions into physical work that people cherished.
In 2020, I applied to study jewellery at TAFE, but lockdowns cut the course short. So I decided to learn at home with basic tools; learning through trial, error, and stubborn persistence. Being self‑taught wasn’t easy and a lot of mistakes were made, but learning the fundamentals of fine metalwork made me fall completely in love with the craft.
Since then, every single order, supportive message, and person choosing to wear something I made by hand has made running my jewellery business so so special and I am endlessly greatful!
So thank you for being here and supporting Wombat Fern Jewellery 𖧧
