Sustainability

Our Approach

At Wombat Fern Jewellery, environmental sustainability is at the heart of our design process. With a background in ecology and wildlife conservation, sustainable design shapes every decision, from the metals we source to the creation process and packaging we use. We believe jewellery should be made to last and gentle on the planet.

Every item is crafted slowly, intentionally, and in small batches with no mass production or unnecessary waste.

  • Recycled

We craft with recycled precious metals from local refineries wherever possible. Without demanding newly mined resources.

  • Responsibly Sourced

We select responsibly-sourced gemstones from our trusted local gem merchants, supporting small family businesses and traceable suppliers.

  • Thoughtful packaging

All orders come packaged in recyclable, reusable, or compostable materials.

Handmade, Not Mass‑Made

Every piece is crafted by hand in our Melbourne studio, slowly and intentionally with processes that naturally use far less energy than industrial manufacturing. Because each item is made to order or created in small batches, waste is kept to a minimum and quality is kept high.

Handmade jewellery lasts longer, wears better, and can be repaired rather than replaced. Keeping production local also allows us to support small Australian suppliers and creative communities.

We’re always learning, adjusting, and looking for better ways to create. Whether it’s improving our sourcing, reducing waste, or refining our packaging, sustainability is an ongoing commitment.

Wildlife

I have previously partnered with St Andrews Wildlife Shelter, donating a portion of our profits towards native species rehabilitation. We also support a range of wildlife protection, habitat restoration, and Indigenous organisations, where I have taken time away from work to volunteer with them and see first-hand how these donations can make an impact.
